What implications does common-law marriage have with respect to the structure and permanence of families?

Common-law marriages are the fastest growing form of marriage in Canada. Research the statistics on this practice (you might start with the Statistics Canada website) and record your findings. Then answer the following questions: Why do you think common-law marriages are becoming so widespread? What implications does common-law marriage have with respect to the structure and permanence of families? Do common-law marriages really have the same rights and obligations of legal marriages?
